Received yesterday an email from the hosting company :

Dear Customer,

This afternoon we discovered some hacked customer sites. Since then we have been looking for the reason of the issue and are logging all affected sites.  We expect to restore all original sites around 22h. We continue to investigate the cause and we will also take further action.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

But I was busy experimenting with ubuntu server on another machine, so I read the mail this morning. Surfed to my sites and yes, me too.

What this guy or group did was pretty harmless : they replaced all index.php or index.html files by a custom index file. And not only my site was defaced as they called it, probably the whole server has been done. Luckely I have backups, I just have to replace all index files, sounds easy, but how many index files do you think you have ?
Lots of them :-)
This blog contains about 13 index files. That is manual labor at the moment. And sometimes I install a plugin and don’t keep a copy offline. Lesson learned. Have to figure out how to sync an offline copy.

Hello World,
my last entry was from february last year (exact one year ago) and then everything went quiet. What has happened since?

We sold our appartment and bought a house with a small garden. Early March we were alerted by friends that there was a house for sale in their street. We know about 5 families in that street, all our children attend the same school and and have approximately the same age. After a long weekend calculating and visiting bank sites to learn about loans we mailed our price to the real estate company. Monday morning we were phoned that our bid was accepted. Everything went fast from that moment on. We sold our appartment to my parents in law. In May we signed all papers and we are now the owners of a house. In June and July we moved.

For the hobby it was a bit giving and taking. I now have a separate shack, Measuring only 1,5 by 2,4 meter. I saw the  appartment building as one big antenna mast, that is gone now :-( But I found the remains of a tv arial on the roof of our house. That should be a good anchorpoint to mount my X200 and a wire antenna for HF.
The garden is about 6 by 30m, just big enough to fit a FD4 antenna. The FD4 is almost ready, but the weather hasn’t cooperating lately.

Other projects I would like to to :

I just noticed in Google Analytics that I passed the 10,000 visitors benchmark. My blog started in March 2008 and I installed Analytics around March 22.
So from March 22 2008 till now (Feb 3 2009) I had 10,381 visitors.
About 75% comes from search engines and merely 18% via other sites. This is a figure that can be better. Work todo !

Once in a while I enjoy listening to webradio’s. There is sometimes a technical problem. They all use different codecs and so on. But the package of Screamer Radio tries to solve this problem. Follow this link to read more and download it : http://www.screamer-radio.com/

It also has a nice collection of radio’s preprogrammed, way too much for me. But it allows me to discover some really weird stations like old school games tunes/songs/audio. Or a bunch of online scanners.

But my favorite is the music that can be found at http://bluemars.org/
It streams 3 music channels for the Space traveller. I like the concept of their music and site.

I was recently designing labels for the few qsl cards that I have to sent. I’m not making 3000 plus qso’s a year, so my share in the sorting service is limited.

But I learned that the qsl cards for UBA members are sorted in The Netherlands. The guys over there type in the callsign and the software tells them in which box the card has to go. Sometimes this goes wrong, very wrong. In our local club we have a member with the callsign ON4AVP, the cards we receive are for ON4AUP. Not everyone writes clearly, including myself :-) .

This is what I call Maritime Mobile :-)

It started yesterday. A small mail arrives from my blog with a comment to moderate.  Oh nice a comment, let’s read it :
Comment:

ekibastos…

Not what I was expecting, so deleted it.
This morning, 5 mails to moderate some comments. What do you think ?
All spam from some spambot.  Time to prepare my blog for future spam attacks.
So I’m now testing out a new plugin. Hope this helps.
